Book Review: I Want To Be Where The Normal People Are

Wowww Rachel Bloom just says all the things we’ve been told we can’t say out loud. And it’s AMAZING. If you watched her show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and thought things like “hey! I’m so glad other people have considered period sex” or “why doesn’t anyone understand that heavy boobs are not a blessing at all” then you’ll love this collection of essays. She lays it all out there and is painfully honest about what it’s like to be an adolescent outsider (like really an outsider) and also dealing with predatory/toxic boyfriends and rampant mysogeny as an adult.

I love when anyone can take such raw and awkward honesty and make me laugh along with her. Bloom has managed to make hindsight reflective and not painful. To look back on something like OCD with laughter means girlfriend has done some growth and then made that growth work for her. Get it, girl.
